Full Circle's owners, Andrew Stout and Wendy Munroe, started the farm with a vision about providing healthy,
delicious, organically-grown food for people, and a deep-seated belief that farms, like all businesses, have a
vital role to play in supporting healthy communities.
That vision is realized through Full Circle's Growing Communities program. Growing Communities is central
to the farm's daily operations, with staff at all levels engaged in a variety of activities that support
healthier, more sustainable local communities and landscapes.
Here are just a few of the ways we are working to grow community:
Healthy Food for the Hungry
Full Circle is deeply committed to ensuring that hungry people in our region have access to
fresh, local-grown foods. Over the past ten years the farm has donated nearly 200,000 pounds of fresh
organic produce to local food banks, schools and daycares. Some of this food was harvested by volunteer
work parties and sent directly from the fields to local food banks. Full Circle Farm also makes regular
donations of fresh fruit to schools and daycares, and participates in innovative programs like providing
healthy snacks instead of junk food during WASL testing weeks at local schools.
Protecting Our Environment
As a certified organic farm, Full Circle has always utilized farming practices that maintain and
enhance soil and water quality. Our farm is situated along the banks of a salmon-bearing stream
that has been improved not only by the farm's organic practices but also through the labors of
seasonal restoration parties. Partnering with Stewardship Partners, these restoration parties
have brought together CSA members, farm staff, local citizens and government agencies to improve
salmon habitat and plant more than1000 trees. Full Circle was the first farm in Washington to be
certified Salmon-Safe and has been recognized by both King County and the state Department of
Natural Resources for its conservation leadership.
Collaboration with Community Partners
If there is one word to describe Full Circle's way of doing business, collaboration is it. We
partner with other farmers and artisan producers to bring more local food to market and to provide
more variety in our CSA boxes. We work with nutrition educators to supply classrooms with seasonal
organic produce and provide students with on-farm tours and hands-on learning experiences. And we
work with public officials and civic leaders to build a local food system that can provide safe,
healthy foods to everyone in our community,
Growing new farmers
One of the biggest challenges to keeping small family farms strong in our country is finding and supporting
young people who want to farm but don't come from a farming background. Full Circle Farm has developed a highly-regarded
hands-on internship program that has hosted nearly 30 interns. Interns come to the farm from all over the country and
abroad to learn what it takes to be a successful organic farmer. Many Full Circle apprentices have gone on to start their own farms.
