Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is a CSA?
A: Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) originated in Europe and Japan as a reaction to the disconnect between consumers and their food source. This phenomenon occurred as farms grew further and further away from the center of their own community. In America food travels an average of 1500 miles before it reaches the dinner plate. Pesticides, herbicides, and insecticides are used to cover the stress of travel on fresh produce. Each CSA operates in its own unique way, but the basic idea remains the same: consumers and farmers collaborating to ensure a safe and healthy food source in their community.

Q: What is unique about Full Circle Farm's CSA?
A: Fresh String Beans from the FarmWe offer a flexible membership program. Sign up for a week, a year, or anywhere in between. You can change box sizes, take weeks off, or share extra boxes with friends or neighbors. Naturally, we encourage you to sign up for more than a week at a time, but most of all we want you to be satisfied with the quantity and frequency of your produce. Every week, you will have the option to look at upcoming seasonal box contents and make up to 5 substitutions according to your likes and dislikes. All of this is web-based which means that you can do most of your membership management over the web and through email requests.

Q: How do I sign up?
A: On the menu bar on top of our website on the far right hand side is a 'Sign Up' option. Click this option to begin the sign-up wizard to get you in our system.

Q: Where does your produce come from?
A: We grow over 75 different varieties of vegetables right on Full Circle Farm in Carnation, WA. In the spring, summer, and fall, many of our vegetables come directly from FCF. We always try to source from Washington producers whenever possible to supplement FCF produce. However, given seasonal availability, we sometimes go beyond Washington State to ensure a wide variety for our CSA members. We do not grow fruit on our farm, so we forge connections with area growers for our fruit connection. In Washington State, we are blessed to have bountiful options like apples, pears, cherries, peaches, plums, etc. We will also include other seasonal items such as oranges, with our focus always being organic, fresh, and seasonal produce.

Q: What are my payment options?
A: You can pay with check or credit card. Pay by the box as you receive them, or pay up front for 10 boxes - and get 5% off! Please mail checks. Site hosts are not Full Circle Farm employees and do not have the ability to collect payment at our pick-up locations. Credit cards will be charged automatically as you are invoiced.

Q: What if I don't have a computer?
A: It is helpful to have a computer to manage your membership, but not necessary. You can call our office in order to set up your account and also call to make changes to your schedule, box contents, and membership information. You will not receive our invoices as these are electronically mailed, but our office is happy to go over invoices with you verbally over the phone.

Q: How many items are in a box and how much produce is that?
A:

Each box contains between 13-14 fruits, vegetables, and herbs. As the box size goes up so does the amount of each item in the box. Contents and amounts vary from week to week depending on availability and pricing. We always create boxes based on the same margin to ensure that you get comparable value week after week. Here is an explanation to help you make the right choice.

Small Box - Our small box is perfect for a family of two. Perfect for a couple without children, or roommates. (About 15-18 lb.)

Medium Box - The medium box best fits a family of four. We give a little bit more of each item in the box to make room for those extra seats at your dinner table. (About 20-25 lb.)

Large Box - The large box is for a large family. This will save your family both money and time! (25 lb. and up)

"You should see my kids when the Full Circle "farm box" arrives each Thursday. They go rifling through it to see what's there. I never would have believed that collard greens would get a 'yippee'!'"
— Ric Ilgenfritz, CSA member since 2005
